Updated: Feb 11, 2021

Now that we finally have all the time in the world, let us pamper our skin. Skin care should be part of our daily lives, this includes both - eating right and choosing the appropriate products for the skin. These are some of the most basic and everyday use masks you can apply for a more healthy looking skin.

Mask for dull & dry skin -

Are there not some days when your skin just does not feel fresh? This is a mask you can use once a week to help give it the boost it needs to provide some extra glow.

Ingredients -

1 tablespoon curd

1 teaspoon honey

1 teaspoon oatmeal

The curd helps soften your skin whereas the mixture of honey and oatmeal acts as a scrub that rids your skin of the blackheads by removing all the dirt from the pores. Oatmeal also soaks in all the extra oil from your skin which eventually reduces your acne. Honey cleans the pores and at the same time keeps it hydrated and tight. This is good for all skin types.

Mask for acne -

One of the most known spot treatments for active acne is using tea tree oil. However, this is way too harsh over the skin and hence is better when diluted with another ingredient. Therefore, one of the best on spot acne mask you can use is -

Ingredients -

1 tablespoon Aloe Vera Gel

2 drops of tea tree oil

Aloe vera gel acts as the calming agent and therefore cuts down the harshness coming from tea tree oil. Wash your face and dry it off completely, apply the mask only where needed - let it dry and wash it off in 15 minutes. This might cause a little dryness as it removes all the excess oil from your skin so make sure to moisturise well after you wash it.

Mask to exfoliate your skin -

The most important part of your skin routine should be exfoliation. This tightens your pores and softens your complexion by removing dead cells. However, if over done this will cause irritation and dryness. Once in 10 days is good enough and if you have very sensitive skin then once in 15 days is good.

Ingredients -

½ cup Brown sugar

¼ cup Virgin Olive Oil

½ cup Coffee Grounds

Mix all of this until you’ve created a fine paste. Wash your face and apply it in soft circular motion. Let the mask stay for about 15 minutes and the wipe it with a hot towel. Moisturise your skin well after cleaning your face.

Mask for irritated or discoloured skin -

Discoloured or redness in the skin happens due to unstable pH levels and bacteria formation. This also leads to your skin feeling puffy and uncomfortable. This mask can be used whenever you feel your skin has been through a lot of pollution or dirt and requires a thorough cleaning. Once in 15-20 days would be good.

Ingredients -

1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar

1 teaspoon of baking soda

2 teaspoons of honey

The Apple cider will help remove the bacteria whereas the baking soda manages your skin pH levels. Honey goes much deeper into your skin and removes all the dirt from within. Apply the mixture evenly on your face and leave it for about 20 mins. Wash it off with a warm towel.

Mask for dark spots & acne

These are some of our main concerns when it comes to the skin. This is an extremely basic mask that can be used as a replacement for face wash also. Try using this every alternate day rather than your face wash - eliminating preservatives and chemicals on your face will automatically make your skin glow.

Ingredients -

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

2 tablespoons curd (or olive oil)

Only using turmeric will turn your face yellow, so add a little calming curd or olive oil to cut out the colour. Turmeric acts as a natural antiseptic and keeps the bacteria from spreading, hence prevents acne.

Try this for a month, alternate between using these masks and avoid using your face wash. Before you sleep apply a little bit of rose water to your face - this calms your skin and rejuvenates your skin cells. Instead of choosing a cream with SPF, try to pick something that has aloe vera - this acts as a natural anti inflammatory. Small changes to your everyday routine will help a lot when it comes to the skin. Also, eating right plays a major part on how your skin ages. Give your skin the time and care it needs.
